Bringing fresh hopes for 2023 SVU Chairperson commences work

  • Scholarships each worth Rs 30,000 for 112 students of war hero families

Chairperson of the Defence Ministry’s Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) Chithrani Gunaratne commenced her duties in the dawned New Year (2023) at the auspicious time amidst religious blessings during a brief event organized at the Ministry premises, today (Jan 5).

Stationary packs and 112 scholarships intended for the selected Grade 5 Scholarship Exam-qualified students of war hero families were also handed over to the SUV Chairpersons of the tri-forces during the session to mark the commencement of the work in the new year.

These scholarships, each worth Rs. 30,000 inclusive of a bank deposit, will be distributed afterwards among the students, the SVU sources said.

Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne, SVU Chairpersons of Tri-Forces, Ministry officials including Additional Secretaries, Military Liaison Officer, Director Media and SVU staffers were also present at the occasion.

The Defence Ministry’s Seva Vanitha Unit facilitates military personnel and their families with numerous welfare measures.

Providing housing assistance, support to overcome emergencies and education for 'Ranaviru' children are some of the main concerns of the SVU.
