Rains predicted across several provinces
January 17, 2023Rains are predicted in several provinces in the island during the afternoon or night. According to the latest forecast of the Met Department issued this morning (Jan 17) showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, Uva and North-Western provinces during the afternoon or night.
Fairly heavy showers about 75mm can be expected at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts, it says.
Several spells of light showers may occur in the Eastern Province while few showers are also likely to occur in the Southern Province in the morning.
People are advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
