INSS set the stage to identify latest security developments - Defence Secretary

The research and related security studies conducted by the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS) through excellence in research, education and networking, have paved the way in identifying the latest security developments in formulating National Security approaches for the Government of Sri Lanka, Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne said.
 
Gen. Gunaratne expressed his views at the launching ceremony of the ‘Defence Review-2022’ held at the INSS in Battaramulla today (February 9).
 
The Defence Review is an annual scholarly international journal of INSS and the publication launched today addresses several key thought-provoking areas.
 
Acting Director General (DG) of INSS Rear Admiral Dimuthu Gunawardena warmly received the Chief Guest of the day, Defence Secretary Gen. Gunaratne, on his arrival, at the venue and also delivered the welcome address at the outset of the programme.
 
Addressing the gathering, the Defence Secretary went on to say that the ‘Defence Review- 2022’ is seen as rightly geared towards identifying the precise research areas of topics that could be perceived in the context of National Security.
 
“It would profoundly facilitate defence research professionals to present their valuable findings from various researches and also would encourage the novices in the field to enhance their knowledge up to a greater extent”, he added.
 
Commending the diligent work of the scholars from the fields of Engineering, Law, Geography, Science and Languages and their endeavour to educate the readers to enhance their knowledge on particular topics, the Defence Secretary said “this product caters to the dire need of a smooth blend of unconventional and conventional understanding of the true meaning of National Security in this century”.
 
The Defence Secretary is of the view that launching of this ‘Defence Review 2022’ would assist to transform the traditional National Security dialogue into a broader and collaborative platform with domestic and global expertise under the guidance of the President in his capacity as the Defence Minister.
 
INSS Acting DG Rear Admiral Gunawardena presented a copy of the ‘Defence Review 2022’ to the Chief Guest to mark the event.
 
Senior Lecturer of the University of Kelaniya Ven. Prof. Nedalagamuwe Dhammadinna thero, Senior Professor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura Prof. Hemanthi Ranasinghe, Additional Secretary (Defence Services), the Defence Ministry Jayantha Edirisinghe, authors, researchers, members of the Board of Peer Reviewers and Editorial Board, senior military officers, staff of INSS and representatives from different think tanks witnessed the event.
