Army lends helping hand to the needy

A group of students in Udayarkattu in the Northern region was presented with new shoes by Sri Lanka Army personnel of the Security Force HQ-Mullaitivu recently (Feb 05). According to Army media, 6 Sri Lanka National Guard (6 SLNG) troops of the 682 Infantry Brigade of the 68 Infantry Division had graciously made financial contributions to reach out and lend a helping hand to these needy children.

The students were presented with pairs of shoes each worth Rs. 3,500.00 after being invited to the camp premises.

This social service initiatives was carried out under the supervision of Major W.M.D.S Dissanayake, Commanding Officer on the instructions of Brigadier Chaminda Galappaththi, Commander, 682 Infantry Brigade, it says.

Meanwhile army troops of 613 Infantry Brigade of the 61 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ-West on Monday (Feb 06) donated dry rations and other provisions worth Rs 30,000.00 to a needy family in Bamunugama, Kamburupitiya recently (Feb 06), army says. Troops had pooled their own funds for this purpose.

The project was carried out under the guidance of Commander, 613 Infantry Brigade, and Major General Deepal Pussella, Commander, Security Forces - West.
