SL Army rescues stranded tourists at Gerandiella

A group of local tourists who had been held up atop the Gerandiella in Ududumbara mountain range was rescued by Sri Lanka Army troops on Sunday (Feb 19).

According to SL Army sources, 33 local tourists who had been stranded atop the Ududumbara mountain range due to torrential rains were rescued by troops of 1 Sri Lanka Rifle Corps (SLRC) troops of the 111 Infantry Brigade of the 11 Division of the Security Force Headquarters-Central (SFHQ-C).

According to sources, the tourists had ventured to the Gerandiella hill in the Ududumbara mountain range the previous morning (Feb 18), but inclement weather conditions had affected their planned return.  Army had sent a rescue to team after being informed of the situation. Police in Udadumbara had also provided support to the rescue operation, it says.
