Children of war veterans receive scholarships under ‘Viru Sisu Pradeepa’ Project
February 24, 2023The Phase-2 of the 'Viru Sisu Pradeepa’ scholarship project, initiated by the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) at the Army HQ, intending to grant educational relief to students of Army families and deceased and injured War Heroes got underway (23 Feb) at the Army Headquarters.
Over 100 scholarships each worth of Rs. 25,000 were awarded to the students during the symbolic distribution, the Army said.
Army Commander Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, at the invitation of Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, ASVU graced the awarding ceremony as the Chief Guest.
Children of fallen and differently able War Heroes and children of those serving were among the beneficiaries.
The National Defence Fund and Bank of Ceylon (BOC) jointly sponsored the Phase-2 of the project, the Army added.
