VBSS instructor course for SL Coastguard and Navy officers
March 13, 2023A group of participants who followed the Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) Instructor Course conducted by the Sri Lanka Coastguard (SLCG) in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) was presented with certificates recently (Mar 10).
According to SLCG media sources, the course was conducted under the Global Maritime Crime Programme of the UNODC. Four officers, two each from Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Sri Lanka Navy attended the course that commenced last month (Feb 20). The course covered topics such as instructor qualities, evaluation procedures, and in-depth knowledge of VBSS's practical aspects. The practical boarding exercises of the course were also held near the Hambantota International Port, it says.
During the closing ceremony held at the SLCG’s Advanced Training Centre in Kirinda, Stuart Melville, Chief Instructor, Indian Ocean Region Team Sri Lanka (Global Maritime Crime Programme-UNODC), and Lieutenant Commander Mihir Gurjan, Indian Navy, awarded certificates of recognition to the instructors.
