Widespread rains expected

  • NBRO issues landslide warnings for several areas in Badulla, Galle and Matale districts

The Meteorology Department says showers or thundershowers will occur at several places over most parts of the island during the afternoon or night.

According to the latest weather forecast of the Met. Dept. issued this morning (Mar 20) showers may occur in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts during the morning as well.

Fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North -Central and Eastern provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued landslide warnings to several areas in the Badulla, Galle and Matale districts.

Landslide warnings are issued to areas in Haldummulla Divisional Secretariat Division and surrounding areas in the Badulla district, Nagoda and Baddegama Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas, Elpitiya Divisional Secretariat Division and surrounding areas in the Galle district, and Ukuwela, Rattota, Wilgamuwa and Naula Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas in the Matale districts.
