SL Coast Guard releases more sea turtle hatchlings to sea

  • SLCG Sea Turtle Conservation Project releases more than 8000 hatchlings to sea in 2023

More than 2600 turtle hatchlings that came out of turtle eggs recovered and protected under the Sri Lanka Coast Guard were released to sea recently. According to SLCG media, a total of 2621 turtle hatchlings were thus released to sea from Mirissa, Dehiwala, Hikkaduwa, Panadura, Wellawatte and Galle Face last week (from 13th to 19th March 2023), while recovering 2526 sea turtle eggs in the same period.

The SLCG under its Turtle Conservation Project (CGTCP) so far has conserved 39770 turtle eggs and released 8043 hatchlings into the sea in this year (2023) alone.
