First batch of Army Women de-miners pinned with Insignias

The first batch of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) de-miners received their Insignia at ceremony held at the Army Headquarters in Sri Jayawardenapura, Kotte.

Army Commander Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage pinned the Insignia on these women soldiers who had successfully completed the internationally-acclaimed Humanitarian De-mining Course during the ceremony held yesterday (22 Mar), SLA media sources say.

The initial group of SLA women de-miners that included three (03) Lady Officers and 51 Other Rank personnel underwent the de-mining course which began in December 2021 in two batches at the Engineers' Brigade Headquarters in Boo Oya and 10 Field Engineers HQ in Mailaddy, Jaffna, it says. 

The three Lady Officers and 51 Other Ranks who had graduated in the de-mining course are at present performing duties at the de-mining site in Maillady, Jaffna alongside their male counterparts with a view to enhance their de-mining experience and knowledge for future UN Peacekeeping Missions, it says.

Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps and Commander, Security Forces-Mullaitivu Major General U.D Wijesekara, Chief Field Engineer and Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Engineers Major General M.K Jayawardena and General Officer Commanding of the Engineer Division Major General A.H.L.G Amarapala were also associated with the Insignia pinning ceremony.
