Navy conducts CBRN awareness programme

A Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) awareness programme and exercise was conducted by the SL Navy at the Ashroff Jetty in Trincomalee harbour on Friday (24 Mar).

According to SLN media sources, personnel from Army, Coast Guard, Police, Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Disaster Management Centre, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Marine Environment Protection Authority, Ceylon Fishery Harbour Corporation, Prima Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd., Tokyo Cement Company (Lanka) Ltd., Ocean Pick (Pvt) Ltd., Indian Oil Corporation PLC and the Trincomalee Fire Brigade had attended the programme.

This awareness programme was conducted by the CBRN unit of Eastern Naval Command under the directives of Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera and supervision of Commander Eastern Naval Area and Commandant Volunteer Naval Force, Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara.

CBRN hazards pose a significant threat to public safety and security and collaborative training efforts and public-private partnerships are important when facing potential hazards, it says.
