Tri-Service Drill Instructors Refresh Knowledge with UK Experts

A group of 48 selected Tri-Service Drill Instructors (DI) recently participated in a ten-day long Basic DI Refresher programme at the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) from 20th March to 30th with expert assistance of a team of handpicked professional DIs of the School of Ceremonial in the United Kingdom.

Its inaugural address was held at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium with the participation of forty-eight Drill Instructors of the Army (24 DIs), Navy (12 DIs) and Air Force (12 DIs) and the programme was meant to refresh and update drill-related knowledge of the tri-forces on a concept, made by the Defence Attaché of the United Kingdom to Sri Lanka and the Republic of Maldives, Colonel Paul Clayton in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and the Directorate of Training of the Sri Lanka Army.

The programme reached its culmination with the certificate awarding ceremony where all the tri service participants were awarded certificates for the successful completion of the programme. Further, the dedication and commitment of the DIs from the UK were highly appreciated awarding tokens of appreciation to them by Major General Buddika Perera, Commandant, SLMA who graced as the Chief Guest and delivered closing remarks before certificates and awards were given away.

In addition, excellent drill performances of the students, namely Sergeant R.G.S.C.R.K Rasnekgedera of the Sri Lanka Army, Leading Seaman G.S Illangathilaka of the Sri Lanka Navy and Sergeant P.H.D Madusanka of the Sri Lanka Air Force were also appreciated awarding Pace Sticks to them.
