126th Birth Anniversary of General Sir John Kotelawala
April 06, 2023The 126th birth anniversary of General Sir John Kotelawala, the third Prime Minister of Independent Sri Lanka and the benefactor of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University fell on 04th April, 2023.
A commemoration ceremony was held at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University with the participation of Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal SK Pathirana WWV and Bar, RWP and Bar, RSP and three Bars, VSV, USP, MSc (MOA) USA, MSc (Def Stu) in Mgt, M Phil (Ind), MIM(SL), ndc (Ind), psc, qfi as the Chief Guest.
The ceremony commenced with floral tributes being laid at the Statue of General Sir John Kotelawala by the Chief Guest Commander of Air Force Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, The Chancellor of KDU, General Shantha Kottegoda (Retd), Vice Chancellor of KDU, Major General Milinda Peiris and Mr. Weera Mangala Kotelawala representing the kinsmen family of General Sir John Kotelawala.
The Chief Guest delivered the commemoration address in which he elaborated the great personality of Sir John Kotelawala as a political and a military leader. The Chief Guest also emphasized the leadership role and patriotism of General Sir John Kotelawala towards the nation.
The event was concluded with the awarding of scholarships sponsored by Sir John Kotelawala Memorial Society to deserving children selected from Piliyandala Sir John Kotelawala school, Kandawala Navodya school and among the children of KDU employees.
