ANZAC Day remembrance held
April 25, 2023The annual ANZAC Day (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) commemoration took place at the Jawatte Cemetery in Colombo 05 today (25 Apr).
State Minister of Defence Hon. Premitha Bandara Tennakoon was present at the occasion held this morning.
High Commissioner of Australia HE Mr. Paul Stephens and High Commissioner of New Zealand HE Mr. Michael Appleton along with, Ambassador of Türkiye HE Mrs. Rakibe Demet Şekercioğlu, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Shavendra Silva, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera and Air Force Commander Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana laid floral tributes at the memorial monument.
ANZAC Day, 25 April marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during World War I.
Religious dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps and tri forces officers were also present at the occasion.
