MINUSCA officials praised Sri Lankan Aviation Unit for their contribution
December 12, 2020The officials of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) commended the efforts of the Sri Lankan Aviation Unit by giving recognitions to the reediness and professionalism extended in their hour of need.
Sri Lankan Aviation Unit’s No 62 Flight deployed in MINUSCA recently joined a mission launched to create a safer place for more than 2000 Internally Displaced People ( IDP’s).
The unit joined a combined operation with the Zambian Special Forces conducted to assist to restore peace in the Boramata area in the Eastern Sector in the Central African Republic.
A rebel group had attacked the Keche Village in Boromata on December 1, 2020 and burnt down leaving about 2000 innocent people internally displaced.
The village was located more than 100kms away from the nearest UN compound and ground troops took more than 3 days to reach the disputed location due to rugged road conditions.
The No 62 Flight conducted 8 Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance flights and 3 replenishment flights to the given locations in support of the Zambian troops on ground while detaching two helicopters to Birao.
