Landslide warning issued as widespread rains continue

Widespread rain is forecasted over the island with showers or thundershowers occurring at several places over most parts of the island after 2.00 pm, says the latest forecast issued (May 02) by the Met. Department.

Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, Matara, Mannar and Jaffna districts.

A few showers may occur in coastal areas of Western and Southern provinces, in Jaffna and Mannar districts during the morning too.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued a Level 1(Yellow) landslide warning to several places including Haldummulla and Passara in the Badulla district, Pasgoda in the Matara district and Kegalle.
