Met Dept. forecasts heavy showers

The Met Dept. says that Showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island after 1.00 pm today (May 04). According to the latest weather forecast issued today morning, Showers will occur in Western and Northwestern provinces and in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Galle and Matara districts during the morning too.

Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in Eastern, Uva, North-Central and North-western provinces, while fairly heavy showers of about 50 mm are likely at some places elsewhere, it says.

Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Western and Southern coastal areas, it says.

Meanwhile the National Building Research Organization has issued land slide warnings to several areas in the Badulla, Kegalle and Matara districts.
