Army Troops apprehend a stock of smuggled turmeric

Mannar-based 54 Division troops of the Security Force HQ-Wanni apprehended a suspect with 1560 kilos of smuggled turmeric hidden in a house at Pallimunei at Mannar on Saturday (12).

The stock of turmeric, valued at Rs. 9.3 million and the suspect were handed over to the Mannar Police for onward investigations.

Meanwhile, 15 Gemunu Watch troops on the same day apprehended two suspects along with a stock of 890 kilos of smuggled turmeric valued about Rs. 5.34 million at Kunchikulam roadblock.

The suspects were nabbed while they were transporting the smuggled raw turmeric from Mannar to Kalmunei in a lorry.

The vehicle, the smuggled turmeric and the suspects were handed over to Madu Police for further investigations.
