Landslide warning issued as monsoonal rains begin

As South-West monsoon conditions are gradually establishing across the island and the increase in rainfall the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued landslide warning to Badulla, Galle and Kalutara districts.
Landslide warnings have been issued to Walallawita, Bulathsinhala and Agalawatte reas in the Kalutara district, Neluwa, Elpitiya and Nagoda in the Galle district and Passara in the Badulla district. Matugama Palindanuwara Divisional Secretary areas are been issued with a Level 2 (Amber) warning while the other areas are issued a Level 1 (Yellow) warning.
The latest forecast of the Met. Department issued today morning (June 06) forecasts showers or thundershowers in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy showers of above 75 mm are likely at places in the Sabaragamuwa province and in the Galle, Matara and Kalutara districts.
Rains are expected in the in the North-Western, Uva and Central province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night, it says.

Strong winds about (40-45) kmph can be expected at times in Northern and North-Central provinces and in Hambantota, Puttalam and Trincomalee districts.
Meanwhile the Sri Lanka Navy media sources say that Navy has deployed four (04) relief teams to Bulathsinhala, Baduraliya, Lathpandura and Kalawana areas to assist people affected by bad weather conditions. Navy has also facilitates a boat service to transport the students sitting G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination.
