More lands used by SL Army released to Batticaloa civilians
June 12, 2023Sri Lanka Army (SLA) recently released 8.6 acres of land in Sittandy, Batticaloa, being used by 4 Gemunu Watch troops for operational requirements.
Accordingly, Commander, Security Forces - East Major General S.R.K Hettiarachchi handed over legal documents of the lands to District Secretary for Batticaloa District Mrs. Kalapathi Pathmaraja, on Tuesday (6 June), the SLA sources stated.
The land plots belonging to some 56 people living around the area and the Batticaloa District Secretariat would be released to relevant owners in due course after verification of legal ownerships and other necessary information and details, the SLA also stated.
4 Gemunu Watch (GW) troops of the 231 Brigade of the 23 Infantry Division under command to the Security Force Headquarters - East remained deployed in this land for security purposes.
Senior officers, state officials and land owners were also present at the location.
