NBRO Landslide Warnings issued to several areas
June 13, 2023The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has upped the Landslide Warnings to Level - 2 (Amber) for Deraniyagala, Yatiyantota, Dehiovita areas in the Kegalle district and also Nivithigala and Kalawana areas in the Ratnapura district.
The NBRO has also issued a Level - 1 (Yellow) Landslide Warnings to several areas in the Colombo, Kalutara, Kegalle and Ratnapura districts with weather forecasts predicting widespread rain, especially in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces.
According to the latest forecasts of the Met. Department issued today morning (Jun 13), showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts with fairly heavy showers of about 75mm likely at some places in these areas.
Rains can also occur in the North-Western and Central provinces while showers or thundershowers may occur at places in the Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night, it says.
Western slopes of the central hills may experience strong winds of speeds between 40-45 kmph.
