Navy clear blockages on Gin ganga
June 14, 2023With monsoonal rains lashing across the island many rivers and streams have swelled with the sudden increase in water levels. Flood waters drag down a huge amount of debris and garbage dumped around these waterways and they clog under bridges and narrow places downstream.
Such blockages affect the steady flow of flood and also pose a threat to flooding the surrounding low lying areas.
A group of Sri Lana Navy personnel cleared such blockages under the Dodangoda and Agaliya bridges over Gin River in Baddegama area of Galle, on Monday (Jun 12).
Navy media says, a team of navy personnel including divers and Rapid Action Boat Squadron attached to the Southern Naval Command was deployed for the flood relief work which ensured the smooth flow of water of this major rive in the southern region.
