June 27, 2023

Sri Lanka Navy personnel on Monday (Jun 26) organized a programme to plant 1000 mangrove plants in the lagoon area of Ullukkalei in Lankapatuna. This was carried out under the Navy’s mangrove conservation project encompassing all naval commands.

According to Navy media sources, the project is carried out under the directives of the Navy Commander Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.

This environmental conservation initiative of the Navy will help to increase mangroves in lagoons and estuaries which helps to protect these fragile marine eco systems. Mangroves, play a vital role in coastal ecosystems and provide habitat and breeding grounds for many marine fauna and flora.
