Vavuniya civilians get benefits through Army mediated health projects

Troops serving under the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) responding to the request of the hospital authorities donated blood to the Blood Bank at Vavuniya District Hospital recently during arrangements made at the Army Field Hospital of the SFHQ-W.

Over 136 Officers and Other Ranks volunteered to contribute in the cause to save the lives of patients under treatment in the hospital, the Army sources stated.

The medical staff at Vavuniya District Hospital had extended its gratitude to the Army for the gesture and thanked the Commander  Security Forces-Wanni for the support since the Blood Bank has run short of much-needed blood.

During the blood donation project, Warrant Officer II, D.M.D.R Priyanka of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and the Staff Sergeant B.D.L.P Tilakasiri of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment who had donated blood 37 times and 45 times respectively received tokens of appreciation and certificates from Blood Bank officials.

Meanwhile 562 Infantry Brigade troops of the 56 Infantry Division with the aim of helping the sick and the poor in Ichchankulam, Vavuniya area held a mobile medical camp at Thausiyakulam Government School recently in coordination with the office of the Regional Directorate of Health Services (RDHS) in Vavuniya, the Army Media reported.  

A gathering of more than 200 civilians received treatment and consultations for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), laboratory testing, scanning and dental issues, the Army confirmed.
