Maj. Gen. Jagath Alwis assumes office as the Secretary to the Public Security Ministry
December 14, 2020Maj. Gen. (Retd) Jagath Alwis assumed duties as the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security at the Ministry premises in Battaramulla today (Dec 14).
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed Maj. Gen. Alwis to the new ministry on Dec10.
Under the purview of Cabinet Minister Rear Admiral (Retd) Dr. Sarath Weerasekara the Ministry administrates Sri Lanka Police, Civil Security Department, National Police Academy and the Department of Multi-Purpose Development Task Force (DMPDTF).
Religious observances were also held in keeping with traditions during the session.
Venerable Maha Sanga, Public Security Cabinet Minister Rear Admiral (Retd) Dr. Sarath Weerasekara, Defence Secretary Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne accompanied by Chairperson of Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit Chithrani Gunaratne, Other Ministry Secretaries, Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Director General of Civil Security Department, Chairperson Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Chairperson Ranaviru Sewa Authority, Commissioner General of Prisons, Director of Sri Lanka Customs, Chairperson Consumer Affairs Authority, Senior Police Officers, Group Consultant of Colombo Logistics Groups and distinguish invitees were also present at the brief ceremony.
