SL Navy brings ashore sick fisherman
August 03, 2023A local fisherman on a multiday fishing trawler was brought ashore by the Sri Lanka Navy after he fell sick while at sea. According to SL Navy media sources, the fisherman had ventured out to sea from the Kalamatiya fisheries harbour on Sunday (Jul 30) onboard the multiday fishing trawler 'Warshan Putha 03’ (Reg. No. IMUL-A-0872 MTR).
He had fallen seriously sick at sea and the Navy had rushed the Fast Attack Craft P 475 from its Southern Naval Command responding to an alert by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Colombo, it says.
The navy craft had taken in the sick fisherman at sea approximately 20 nautical miles (about 37km) southeast of Hambantota and brought to the Hambantota harbor on Tuesday (Aug 01). He was later transferred to the Hambantota District General Hospital for treatment.
