Army-Organized Eye Camp Provides Treatment & Spectacles
for Mullaittivu Civilians

Nearly 464 civilians, affected with various vision defects and eye ailments in Mullaittivu area had the rare chance of getting medical consultations and treatment during a mobile eye clinic arrangement, organized by 68 Infantry Division troops of the Security Force Headquarters- Mullaittivu (SFHQ - MLT) at Udayarkattu Maha Vidyalaya on Sunday (13 August).
The project, aimed at further promoting goodwill and civil relations between members of the Security Forces and civilians, resident in the area was conducted by Dr. Asela Abeydeera, Chairman, Community Medicine Association with his team and a group of about 40 All Ranks including Officers of the 68 Infantry Division.
Dr. V. Serveshvaran, Chairman, Assist RR (UK) and Mr. Arosha Paranawithana, the Sri Lankan representative of Tzu Chi Buddhist Welfare Foundation in Thailand provided sponsorship for cataract surgeries of 139 civilians in the Jaffna Teaching Hospital and provision of 100 reading glasses to the deserving.
The team of optometrists and eye surgeons screened those who came to the clinic and referred the patients for further consultations as necessary.
The project saw its fruition under the guidance of the Commander, SF-Mullaittivu, Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu and the General Officer Commanding, 68 Infantry Division, Major General S. Kasturimudali RSP ndc psc.
Brigade Commander, 681 Infantry Brigade, Brigade Commander, 682 Brigade Commander, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in this community project.
