NBRO issues Red Alert landslide warning to Eheliyagoda

•    5 districts issued with landslide warning as rains continue

A Level 3 (Red) landslide early warning has been issued to areas in the Eheliyagoda Divisional Secretariat Division in Ratnapura.

The latest Landslide Early Warning issued by the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) also has a Level 2 (Amber) landslide warning to several areas in the Ratnapura,  Kalutara, and Kegalle  districts. In addition several areas in Galle and Kandy have been issued with Level 1 (Yellow) landslide warnings.

Meanwhile, the Met Department forecasts (Sep 5) indicate showers or thundershowers at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-western provinces.

Fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara and Nuwara-eliya districts. A few showers are also likely in Jaffna, Mannar and Anuradhapura districts, it says.

Fairly strong winds about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times in western slopes of the central hills, Western, Southern, North-western, Northern and North-central provinces.

The Department also says that the sun is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka from 28th of August to 07th of September. The nearest towns of Sri Lanka where the sun is overhead today are Bambalapitiya, Maliboda, Keppetipola, Badalkumbura and Pottuvil at about 12.09 noon.
