Defence Secretary recalls Pakistan’s unwavering support
September 08, 2023- Defence Secretary graces 58th Pakistan Defence and Martyr Day as the Chief Guest
The 58th Pakistan Defence and Martyr Day ceremony hosted by the Pakistan envoy in Sri Lanka HE Major General (Retd) Umar Farooq Burki was held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo, yesterday (Sep 07), with the gracious presence of the Sri Lankan Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne as the Chief Guest.
The Defence Advisor to the High Commission of Pakistan in Sri Lanka Colonel Muhammad Farooq delivered the welcome speech of the ceremony.
During the ceremony organized to mark the milestone of reaching 58th anniversary this year, the Defence Secretary thanked Pakistan for being a symbol of unwavering solidarity.
While recalling the profound friendship and solidarity between Sri Lanka and Pakistan and the great military personalities in the Pakistan’s military and their remarkable role played, the Defence Secretary extended his gratitude for their invaluable contribution including military to military support and the training assistance provided to Sri Lankan Tri-Service personnel.
The event was also attended by distinguished guests including the Sri Lankan Chief of Defence Staff and Tri-Forces Commanders, Additional Secretaries and Military Liaison Officer of the Ministry of Defence, military officers and the members of the diplomatic corps.
