Rains predicted over several parts of the country

The prevailing rainy weather is likely to continue with the Met. Department forecasting rains over several parts of the country. According to the latest weather forecast issued by the Met. Department today (Sep 11) morning showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

 Fairly heavy showers of about 50mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and the Puttalam, Galle and Matara districts. A few showers may occur in Mannar, Vavuniya and Anuradhapura districts, it says.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in Batticaloa, and Ampara districts during the evening or night.

Fairly strong winds of about 40-45 kmph can be expected at times in the western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai and the sea areas extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil can be rough at times. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thunderstorms, it says.
