Inclement weather may continue further

  • NBRO issues earth slip warnings several districts

The inclement weather experienced in the country is likely to continue as the Met. Department forecasts more rain in several parts of the country.

According to the latest weather forecast issued by the Department today morning (Sep 15), showers will occur at times in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Kalutara, Colombo, Gampaha, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province, and in the Batticaloa and Ampara districts during the evening or night, it says.

Fairly strong winds of about 40-45 kmph can be expected at times in the Western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

Meanwhile, the national Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued Level 1 (yellow) earth slip warnings to Seethawaka in the Colombo district, Warakapola in the Kegalle district. The warnings also include Kurivita, Ratnapura and Eheliyagoda areas in the Ratnapura district.
