Navy launches beach cleaning programme to coincide
with International Coastal Clean-up Day

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) conducted a beach cleaning campaign at Port City Beach on Sept 16, with the endorsement of the Chief of Staff to the President and National Security Advisor, Mr. Sagala Ratnayaka, and Navy Commander Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.
The SLN extended similar programmes to encompass all Naval Commands on the sidelines of the International Coastal Cleanup Day, the SLN stated.
International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) Day is a promise to bring cleanliness and purity to nature as a whole. ICC Day 2023 is observed under the theme ‘Sea the Change’, focusing on plastic pollution.
In keeping with the theme, the SLN personnel put in a lot of effort to clear the coasts of tons of plastic, polyethylene and other solid debris in order to preserve the appeal of the coastal areas around the country.
