Army’s New Chief of Staff takes Office
December 17, 2020Maj. Gen. Prabhath Dematanpitiya, Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Signal Corps assumed office as the 56th Chief of Staff of the Army at the Army Headquarters, yesterday (Dec 16).
He joined the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 07 October 1985 and was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant on 24 July 1986.
With 35 years of service in the Army, this senior officer has held Command, Staff and Instructional appointments and is the current Chairman of the Army Wushu Committee.
Maj. Gen. Dematanpitiya is a graduate of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) Sapugaskanda and has earned MSc from the National Defence University Pakistan and MBA at Kotelawala Defence University.
He was serving as the Commandant of the DSCSC before he took over the new appointment.
A representative gathering of Senior Officers was present to extend best wishes to him at the occasion.
