Met. Department forecasts wet weather to prevail

The Metrological Department says the prevailing showery condition in the South-western parts of the country is expected to continue further.

According to the latest weather forecast issued today morning (Oct 04) the Department says, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Fairly heavy showers above 75mm can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts during the evening or night.

Meanwhile the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued a Level 2 (Amber) landslide warning to several areas in the Galle, Kalutara, Kegalle, Matara, Kandy and Ratnapura districts.

A level 1 (yellow) landslide warning has been issues to several areas in the Colombo Hambantota districts.

A maximum rainfall of 98 mm was reported from Negombo.
