Defence Secretary donates artificial limb to a commando war hero

Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne donated an artificial limb to war hero Sergeant Major R.P.C. Dharmapriya at the Ranaviru Seva Authority head office today (Oct. 4). Sgt. Maj. Dharmapriya lost his right leg due to a terrorist landmine during the Operation ‘Akunu Pahara’ launched in the Welioya area.

General Gunaratne made the generous donation to mark his birthday while exemplifying the spirit of compassion and camaraderie.

This donation worth more than a hundred and sixty two thousand rupees was arranged in collaboration with the Ranaviru Seva Authority under the financial sponsorship of Mrs. Chitrani Gunaratne and their daughter, Miss. Kanchana Gunaratne.

Ms. Chitrani Gunaratne stated to the Chairman of the Ranaviru Seva Authority that it is a great opportunity to contribute to such a noble charity for a war hero who owes the country no debt and sacrificed his young life, eyes, flesh and blood in order to protect the territorial integrity, unity and freedom of the country.

This event was attended by Major General Nandana Senadheera (Rtd), the Chairman of the Ranaviru Seva Authority, the Director, Brigadier Chandra Abeykoon, Secretary to the Chairman, Brigadier Nalin Madiwaka, Mrs. Nethmi Gayashree, the Program Officer and Ranaviru Seva Authority staff members.
