Red landslide warnings to several districts
October 08, 2023- Red flood warning to Nilwala river
The National Building Research Organization has issued a Level 3 (Red) landslide warning to several districts.
Accordingly Yakkalamulla, Elpitiya, Nagoda, Galle and Imaduwa in the Galle district, Ingiriya, Walallawita and Mathugama in the Kalutara district and Pitabeddara, Akuressa and Hakmana in the Matara district have been issued with Red landslide warnings.
In addition many areas in the Colombo, Galle, Gampaha, Hambantota, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Matara and Ratnapura districts have also been issued with Amber and Yellow landslide warnings.
A Red flood warning has also been issued to Nilwala river while flood warnings have also been issued to Gin, Kudaganga and Atthanagalu oya.
Meanwhile the Met. Department says that atmospheric conditions are favorable for afternoon thunderstorms in the Eastern, Uva Northern and North-Central provinces.
The weather report also predicts showers or thundershowers at several places in the Eastern, Uva, Central, Northern and North-central provinces and in the Kurunegala district during the evening or night.
Fairly heavy showers of above 75 mm can be expected at some places.
Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces and in the Puttalam district.
