SLN assists to nab over 39 kilos of Kerala cannabis
December 18, 2020The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) nabbed 14 suspects with a stock of 39 kilos and 197 grams of Kerala cannabis during special search operations conducted across the island recently.
The Northwestern Naval Command together with Silavathurai and Kalpitiya Police carried out search operations in Pudukuduirippu, Norochcholai, Karambe, and Kalpitiya areas and nabbed seven suspects with 25 kilos and 318 grams of Kerala cannabis and a motor vehicle.
The SLN, Eastern Naval Command, in coordination with the Kalawanchikudi STF and Mullaitivu Police conducted separate operations at Puthur in Batticaloa, Pulmoddai and Pudukuduirippu in Mullaitivu and apprehended three persons with 02 motorcycles, 02 kilos and 674 grams of Kerala cannabis attempted to be sold, the SLN said.
Meantime, Southern and North Central Naval Commands, with the assistance of STF Hambantota and Mannar and Jayapuram Police conducted Operations in Embilipitiya, Mannar, and Pallawarayankaddu in Mulankavil areas and arrested four suspects with 11 kilos and 205 grams of Kerala cannabis.
All these anti-drug operations were carried out, adhering to safety and health guidelines for the prevention of COVID-19.
All the suspects were handed over to the Silawathura, Norochcholai, Kalpitiya, Batticaloa, Pulmoddai, Mullaitivu, Embilipitiya, Mannar, and Jayapuram Police stations for legal action, the SLN also said.
