4 SLLI Soldiers’ Timely Action Averts Major Catastrophe
October 19, 20234 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops of the Security Force HQ - Central timely acted to save a major split on the ‘Rajamaha’ tank bund in the Thalakiriyagama Grama Seva Division in Matale on Sunday (15 Oct) when its south bank due to torrential rains began subsiding.
As soon as the troops received the news from the Disaster Management Centre of Galewela, troops rushed quickly to the location and started to place about 500 sandbags after hours of tiring work. Two Officers and 24 Other Ranks carried out the task under the close supervision of engineers of the Irrigation Department and averted a major disaster.
Hon. Premitha Bandara Tennakoon, Acting Minister of Defence visited the location and highly commended the Army’s tireless efforts and their contribution. Commander, Security Forces - Central, General Officer Commanding, 11 Infantry Division and the Commander, 111 Infantry Brigade provided necessary guidelines for the project. The Commanding Officer, 4 SLLI closely monitored the work.
