A Simulation Exercise of an Aeromedical Evacuation and
Transportation of a Critically Ill Patient

The Directorate of Health Services successfully conducted a simulation exercise of an Aeromedical evacuation of a critically ill patient in collaboration with the Trauma secretariat of the National Hospital Sri Lanka on 24 October 2023 at SLAF Base Ratmalana. This simulation exercise was an extended learning exposition to the lecture series conducted for the Consultants and Medical officers from the Ministry of Health, earlier this month by the SLAF Aviation Medical team.
This exercise demonstrated the patient handing over and taking over procedure and steps in an Aeromedical evacuation. The Bell 412 with the Medivac Kit from the No 4 Squadron was used in this exercise. The simulation flight with a patient was taken off from SLAF Base Ratmalana and landed on the Helipad of the National Hospital Sri Lanka. The team comprised the SLAF Aviation Medevac teams and Doctors and Intensive teams of the National Hospital Colombo.
