Met. Department forecasts widespread rain over several provinces

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in most provinces of the island after 02.00 p.m, says the Meteorological Department in its latest weather forecast issued today (Nov. 01).

Heavy showers of about 100mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Showers will also occur in the Eastern, North-Central and Northwestern provinces and in the Matale and Badulla districts during the mornings too, it says.

A maximum rainfall of 121.3mm was reported from Padukka Estate in the Colombo district.

The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued a Level 2 (Amber) landslide warning to several areas in the Kandy and Matale districts while a level 1 (Yellow) warning has been issued to several areas in the Matara, Ratnapura, Kurunegala, Kegalle,Kandy Kalutara, Hambantota, Galle, Colombo and Badulla districts.

A flood warning has also been issued to Nilwala river basin.
