Army assists in disaster management operations during adverse weather
November 20, 2023Sri Lanka Army troops have been continuously supporting the flood affected communities while assisting the disaster management authorities to provide uninterrupted services for people during the adverse weather conditions prevailing in the country.
3 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 6 Sri Lanka National Guard of the 593 Infantry Brigade under the 68 Infantry Division of the Security Force Headquarters (SFHQ) - Mullaittivu provided humanitarian assistance to flood- affected families in Puthukidiyiruppu and Ananthapuram areas on 17 November.
The Army sources stated that the troops also engaged in evacuation, relief, relocation and clearing of the Ananthapuram canal to mitigate the flood levels while coordinating with Divisional Secretariats and the Disaster Management Centre.
Meanwhile, the troops of the SFHQ - Central in Diyatalawa assisted to remove a huge soil mound and boulders that had blocked the railway track near Diyatalawa Railway station on the same day and assisted in the restoration of railway movements.
Further, troops of the 4 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment of the SFHQ – Central on 18 November cleared a huge fallen tree that had blocked the traffic along Laggala -Moragahakanda main road at the 40th Milepost following adverse weather conditions.
