Awareness Programme on Human Trafficking commenced in Colombo

An awareness programme on Human Trafficking organized by the National Task Force against Human Trafficking and the International Organization for Migration to educate 39 Divisional Secretaries covering 13 districts commenced at Hotel Ramada in Colombo on Monday (Dec. 04). Attending the programme, Defence Secretary and Chairman of the National Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force (NAHTTF), General Kamal Gunaratne made the opening remarks.

Deputy Chief of Mission, International Organization for Migration (IOM) Sri Lanka and Maldives, Andrew Gray also joined the Defence Secretary at the opening session.

The three-day programme is being conducted by a panel of well qualified professionals and state officials to educate and enhance awareness of the Divisional Secretaries and will cover a range of topics, including national and international law on human trafficking, the difference between human trafficking and human smuggling, the Victim and Witness Protection New Act, the Anti-Corruption Act, the role of NAHTTF and etc.

Chief of National Intelligence (CNI) Maj. Gen. Ruwan Kulatunga, NAHTTF and IOM officials and a large number of Divisional Secretaries and Assistant Divisional Secretaries were present at the occasion.
