Kothalawala Defence University Commences the new academic year - 2024
January 03, 2024With the dawn of New Year 2024, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University ceremonially commenced its new academic year on 1st January 2024 at the university premises.
This remarkable event was commenced with a Tri-Services Guard Turnout, presented to Rear Admiral HGU Dammika Kumara VSV, USP, psc, the Vice Chancellor of KDU at the entrance of the University.
Officially commence the proceedings of year 2024 was begin with hoisting of the National Flag and KDU Flag followed by singing the national and KDU Anthem. Further, all the staff members observed one minute of silence to commemorate the war heroes who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland. Thereafter all Military and Civil staff declared the Oath of state services following the VC the of KDU to affirm their commitment to motherland and to the nation.
The Vice Chancellor addressed Officer Cadets, Day Scholars and University Staff by Emphasizing the government policy to overcome the present challenges and the contribution of the public servant and the contribution need to be given by the KDU as a state University. Further he commended everyone who contributed towards the excellent performance of the University in the year 2023.
The event concluded with the awarding of scholarships sponsored by Sir John Kotelawala Memorial Fund to 52 students from the Sir John Kotelawala Maha Vidyalaya, Kandawala Navodya School and children of KDU staff members who excelled at the Grade 5 Scholarship and the GCE- O/L examinations.
