Army Troops Transform Galewela Public Ground

The newly renovated public ground in Galewela was officially handed over to the public in a simple ceremony on 21 January 2024. The event was graced by Hon. Pramitha Bandara Thennakoon, Acting Minister of Defence, Hon. Janaka Bandara Thennakon, Member of Parliament Matale District and Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army.

The initiative to refurbish the public ground was undertaken following the directions of Hon. Pramitha Bandara Thennakoon to the Commander of the Army to oversee the project. In response, troops of 4 (V) Sri Lanka Engineers and 7 Sri Lanka Engineers of the Plant Engineer Brigade took charge of the renovation. Their technical, mechanical and workforce expertise, coupled with financial support from the Disaster Management Department, ensured the successful completion of the project.

Upon inauguration, expressing his gratitude, the Acting Minister of Defence commended the Commander of the Army and the Army personnel for their dedicated efforts in completing the task within the expected time frame. He emphasized the significance of the renovated ground, highlighting the intention of utilizing it as an assembly point for the community in the event of natural disasters.

Afterwards, the Commander of the Army unveiled two unserviceable military vehicles mounted at the premises, the Saladin Armoured Car and an MV4 Vehicle (Mine Clearing Vehicle), which hold ornamental and memorable value to the location.

Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, representatives of government offices and civilians from the area participated in the occasion.
