KDU gets a fully automated basic weapons training simulator

The Centre for Defence Research and Development (CDRD) of the Ministry of Defence, officially handed over a fully automated weapons training simulator to General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) recently.

The simulator was handed over to the Vice Chancellor of KDU Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara by the Director General of the CDRD-Ministry of Defence, Brigadier Buddhika Assalarachchi at a ceremony on Wednesday (Jan 31), KDU media stated.

The weapons training simulator station consists of six firing lanes, each with a laser-mounted, modified T-56 assault rifle and an LED target panel to capture laser impacts. The fully automated and movable electronic target system with a maximum firing distance of 50 m facilitates the trainees’ ability to fire laser shots in prone, kneeling and standing positions and monitor the shot’s impact on the nearby LCD screens, further it says.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Defence and Administration), Director of the Institute of Combinatorial Advanced Research and Education of KDU (KDU CARE), Lt Col. (Dr.) N A B M S Nishshanka the pioneer of designing weapon training simulator and a few senior officers from KDU and CDRD were present on the occasion, it says.
