Defence Secretary assesses 76th Independence Day ceremony preparations
February 02, 2024Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne personally assessed the readiness of the defence forces and the final arrangements for the upcoming 76th Independence Day ceremony at Galle Face today (Feb 2).
The annual event holds significant importance, marking a day of pride and patriotism for citizens. The Independence Day parade, the major event of the Independence Day Celebrations will be held with the participation of 259 officers and 6227 other ranks belonging to the Tri-Forces, Police, Civil Defence Force and the National Cadet Corps.
General Gunaratne, accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, Commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force, Acting Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Civil Security Department oversaw the parade rehearsals this morning.
