Sri Lanka Celebrates World Military Day with CISM Run
February 19, 2024More than 300 Tri-Services members participated in the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) run on 18 February 2024, to commemorate the World Military Day. The event, headed by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, along with Army, Navy and Air Force Commanders, as well as Tri-Services Senior Officers, began at Parliament Ground in Battaramulla.
Covering a distance of approximately 2.5 km, this year's CISM run concluded at the main entrance of the Army Headquarters. With nearly one hundred participants from each Army, Navy, and Air Force, led by their respective Tri-Services Commanders, the event holds special significance, showcasing the sporting prowess of Sri Lanka's Armed Forces on an international platform.
Organized by the Sri Lanka Army, each participant received a certificate, with the Chief Guest and Tri-Services Commanders taking part in the distribution ceremony. CISM's vision promotes unity among soldiers, serving as a global platform for military personnel to engage in sports activities, thereby enhancing physical fitness, military preparedness and education across Armed Forces worldwide.
