Disaster Management Events
December 21, 2020International virtual symposium on Multi-Hazard Early Warning and Disaster Risk Reduction (MHEW and DRR: 2020) held three days from 14 to 16 Dec 20.
It was held in collaboration between the Ministry of Defence, Disaster Management Centre, Sri Lanka and Global Disaster Resilience Centre, University of Huddersfield, UK with several other partner universities, partner UN agencies, JICA, ADPC, and other partner agencies.
The important event was the adoption of Colombo Declaration of MHEW and DRR: 2020 on 16 Dec and circulation among the stakeholders.
Besides, Defence Secretary visited the Ayagama landslide prone area last week (Dec 17) and assured the mitigation of landslide hazards for the folks under landslide threat while inaugurating a Rs. 418 million worth project mooted to mitigate the landslide risk.
Further, another Rs. 442 million worth project in Galaboda, Ratnapura, covering 12 kilometres along the Wewelwatte Road, was also inaugurated during the visit.
