We will do everything possible to ensure welfare of war heroes - Defence Secretary

The decision to pay salaries of disable War Heroes for their and the lifetimes of their spouses and measures to overcome issues pertaining to the salaries of War Heroes and disable War Heroes are some of the welfare initiatives taken for the benefit of those who sacrificed their life and limb for the country, said the Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne while speaking to a large gathering of War Heroes and their families at the Tower Hall Theatre in Colombo today (21 Mar).   

The Defence Secretary gracing the seminar organized by the Ranaviru Seva Authority (RSA) as the Chief Guest further said that the sacrifices of War Heroes have ensured us and the future generations a peaceful life and we must be grateful for them and their families. The Ranaviru Seva Authority was established through an Act to ensure and safeguard the welfare of War Heroes and their families.
The seminar was organized as a part of the welfare initiative of the RSA with the view of offering career guidance and entrepreneurial advice to War Hero families.  

Entrepreneurs, Malan Dabare and W M T I Wijewardena, along with an official from the Department of Small Industry, conducted valuable lectures on ornamental fish products & exports, dehydration of food & supply to local and foreign markets, and small enterprises.

RSA Chairman Major General Nishantha Manage (Retd) warmly received the Defence Secretary on his arrival at the occasion.

The Ranaviru Seva Authority, functioning under the purview of the Ministry of Defence, ensures the mental and social stability of disabled War Heroes and the families of those who have died in action. RSA-led projects include the aftercare and rehabilitation of the wounded and disabled members of the Armed Forces and the Police, providing prosthetic limbs, wheelchairs, spectacles, or hearing aids, as well as the provision of houses, lands, financial aid, concessionary loans, and technical know-how for those in need.

Commanders of the Tri-Forces, Director-General of the Pensions Department, Deputy Chairperson, regional RSA representatives and a large number of war heroes and their families were present at the occasion.
