Sri Lanka Army contingent for UN mission leaves for Lebanon
April 04, 2024The 125 strong Sri Lanka Army‘s 15th contingent of the Sri Lanka Force Protection Company (SLFPC) in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) left the country for the UN mission on Wednesday (Apr 03), reports Sri Lanka Army (SLA) media.
The departure of this contingent follows the Advance Party of the 15th SLFPC, consisting of 12 Army personnel that proceeded for the UN mission in the first stage last month (Mar 09). The contingent commanded by Lieutenant Colonel DKD Vithanage includes 11 officers and 114 other rank personnel, it says.
The Sri Lankan FPC is mandated to provide protection to the Headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Naqoura and VIPs as required by UNIFIL.
Meanwhile, the 14th SLFPC contingent for UNIFIL arrived home on Tuesday (Apr 02) after completing their mission. This contingent which left for the UN mission in March last year (2023) consisted of 10 officers and 115 other rank personnel and was commanded by Colonel DPIT Kaluaggala.
